Detailed Guide

Understanding DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) & Domain Name Resolution Protocols

DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH, RFC 8484) wraps traditional Domain Name System queries in encrypted HTTPS sessions, protecting DNS resolution requests from man-in-the-middle eavesdropping and ISP tracking.

Different DNS record types serve distinct infrastructure roles: A maps hostnames to IPv4 addresses, AAAA maps to IPv6 addresses, MX specifies mail servers, and TXT holds SPF and DKIM security records.

Time To Live (TTL) values dictate how many seconds recursive DNS resolvers may cache a record before querying authoritative nameservers for fresh updates.
